Ok. This is very very odd. For some reason, this box is not running as quick as it should. I checked my kernel config, it's set for CPU_i686, and the rest uncommented. If I set at idle in Ion, with about 62 processes, it's still not running like it should. This is how I get to this conclusion. This box use to to be able to do SETI work units in a little under 4 hours with Linux, and now with FreeBSD it's taking a bit over 5 hours.

I was thinking I set the swap too low (even though it doesn't use it), but it was right. I double checked my kernel, and couldn't find anything.

Is there something I overlooked with FreeBSD 5.0 and AthlonXPs in the handbook?

Also, I get a temperature warning even when the CPU temp is fine. What can I do to change the settings of the warning/throttle temp?

There's a blurb at the beginning of /usr/src/UPDATING that says there is a crap load of debugging still enabled in both kernel and userland that could make 5.0 slow. Might be related.

Being ~4 months after the original post, I'm not sure how much bearing this will have on anything... :P
