I am playing with vacation now but I cant get it to work properly.

This doesnt work:

\pete, "|/usr/bin/vacation pete -a peter"

But this does:
\pete, "|/usr/bin/vacation pete"

I am trying to get it to work for my virutual user peter. I have tried every config known in my .forward file.
Yes, I have read the man...that way wont work either. Using -a pete or -a peter or any variation does not work either.

I do have 'peter: pete' in my /etc/postfix/aliases. I do receive email for pete or peter, so my postfix doesnt seem to be the issue.

you have an aliased user which is different from a virtual user. An aliased identity, setup an outgoing canonical table to rewrite the mail header so everything comes from peter instead of petie and then setup vacation as your actual username petie, and the reply will come from peter@domain.com.

You can also setup an incoming canonical table as well and just do away with your aliases file with the exception for you system aliases like root, abuse etc.

As it stands now, I go to yahoo mail and send an email to pete. i look at my logs and everything goes correctly. I check my yahoo mail and I have my vacation message there and it has come from peter.
The username on my server is pete, peter is just an aliase in postfix.

Here is the header from Yahoo:
