Where are the defaults for DNS servers at bootup? I keep changing my /etc/resolv.conf, but it likes to put it back to the servers used before after a reboot.

Should be in /etc/resolv.conf.

Unless you are using DHCP, in which case I think it queries the DHCP server about DNS serves and then changes it from there.

Comment domain-name, domain-name-servers and host-name in your /etc/dhclient.conf and you can set your hostname and keep your resolv.conf intact.
