Anybody could give you an answer but without knowing what you are doing, it wouldn't be worth much. ;)

Sony hasn't been the greatest about their hardware over the past few years. At least with the MacBook, you'll be getting premium hardware, and the ability to run Windows if needed.

I've been using a 15" MacBook Pro for the last 6 months, and I have to say it's easily the best laptop I've ever had. I wasn't crazy about the switch to Mac OS X at first, but now that I'm acclimated to the change I can't really imagine going back to Windows, especially not Vista. And it's great to have a real BSD-like console built into the core of your system with stuff like Perl and Python built into the system already.
