I recently ordered OBSD 3.3 (to get the stickers) and love it. I'm wanting to setup Qmail on it but can not seem to find a qmail package or port. The closest thing I've found is doing make search key="qmail" (in /usr/ports) and it returns safecat. Do I need to download qmail source and build it myself or am I not understanding something? Is Qmail no longer supported as a package (don't see it in the 3.3 package directory/list) or as a port because most people choose postfix over Qmail? Any clarity on this subject would be greatly appreciated. :D

Theo removed the qmail ports from the tree awhile ago, due to licensing i believe. But, you can get a port of it at

Cool. Thanks bsdjunkie. Since qmail is no longer "officially" part of OBSD, would the more intelligent decision be to use postfix? As in... being a newbie to OBSD and all I probably shouldn't stray off the path too far, right? Maybe I'll just have to play with qmail and postfix on OBSD and see what I can break/what I can learn.

I like postfix much better than qmail. Personally I think it's easier to configure, equally as robust and secure. Lots of 3rd party programs supporting postifx right out of the box as well these days, spamassassin, vipuls razor, amavis, etc.

Plus lots of people here know postfix really well too.

If you got got some time stop by this thread and tell us how you found us.
